For November, our Coffee of the Month is one you may already know: Wind + Sea, our all-time best seller. It ships to every monthly subscriber this month. We usually use this space to introduce a new single origin. This time we're taking a closer look at the blend so many of you drink every day: what goes into it and why it works.
Named for Windansea
Wind + Seatakes its name from Windansea Beach in La Jolla, one of the best-loved stretches of San Diego coastline. We wanted a coffee that feels like home here: easygoing, welcoming and good at any hour. It's the coffee we reach for first, and the one our wholesale partners pour most.
Why These Origins?
Wind + Sea brings together coffees from Indonesia, Colombia and Latin America (Brazil and Honduras). Each region tends to bring something different to the cup:
Indonesia is known for full body and a deep, earthy sweetness. Colombia is prized for balance, with sweetness and a gentle brightness. Brazil often gives a nutty, chocolatey base with low acidity. Honduras tends to add sweetness and soft fruit.
A blend lets us build a cup that no single origin gives on its own: rich enough for a splash of milk, bright enough to stay interesting black.
A Coffee That Gives Back
Every coffee we roast, Wind + Sea included, comes through our commitment to an ethical supply chain. We work with importers and cooperatives that prioritize quality, environmental responsibility, and fair, livable wages for producers. We believe real ethics live in transparency and trading practices, not labels alone.
We also look after the other end of the supply chain. Since 2020, we've fully offset our carbon emissions through our partnership with ClimeCo. You can read more about how we source on our Coffee for the Common Good page.
How We Roast It
Wind + Sea is a City roast, which is a medium roast. We take it just far enough to develop sweetness and body while keeping the fruit and nut character of the coffees in the blend. We roast on Thursdays and ship on Fridays, so it reaches you fresh.
What You'll Taste
Fresh berry Warm almond Dark chocolate A tart, mild citrus brightness
Overall, it's a smooth, medium-bodied cup that works any time of day and for any kind of coffee drinker.
How to Brew It
Wind + Sea works in every manual brewer and in a drip machine, and we also grind it for espresso. For pour-over or drip, start at a 1:16 ratio: 20 grams of coffee to 320 grams of water. Go a little stronger (1:15) if you like it with milk. Our Brew Guide has step-by-step recipes for each method.
An Easy Gift to Get Right
If someone on your list loves coffee but you're not sure what they drink, a best-selling medium roast is a safe place to start. Our Small Gift Box pairs a bag of coffee with a personalized card. The Large Gift Box adds a second bag and a mug. Or let them choose with a digital gift card.
Why We Selected It
We pick each month's coffee for more than its cupping score. It needs a story worth sharing and a cup that's approachable for everyday drinking. Wind + Sea is both. Heading into a season of full tables and early mornings, it felt right to feature the coffee that brings the most people to Common Good. Thank you for making it our best seller.
For Subscribers
If you have a monthly subscription, Wind + Sea is your November coffee, and there's nothing you need to do. New to subscriptions? Our home coffee subscription works like a coffee of the month club: a fresh-roasted bag on your schedule, with a new feature each month.
